How to Get a Driving Licence - Category A1
If you've been to an instructor in driving you are able to drive motorcycles with 125 ccm engines and 11 kW of power with an A1 license. You can also drive three-drive motorized vehicles such as trikes.
You can get an A1 license at the age of 16 years old. You must pass the theory test as well as an actual test.
What can I drive?
A category A1 license permits you to ride two- or three-wheeled motorbikes. These are vehicles that have an engine capacity of up to 125cc and a power output of up to 11 kW. A motor tricycle may also be driven with this licence, provided it has the power output of not more than 15kW. This license also allows you to drive a moped with a trailer.
If you wish to ride a more powerful motorcycle, you'll require a category AM license. This allows mopeds up to 150cc and a maximum power output of 35 kW.
Drivers with a category C license (which they can get after passing the CPC four-part test) are allowed to drive large-sized vehicles with 3500kg in weight. This is much heavier than the majority of cars and that means you will have to be capable of towing quite a bit.
This category is less limiting than Category C. You can tow a trailer up to 750kg in this category. This is a great method to gain experience driving larger vehicles prior to taking on the full category C test, which is required for anyone wanting to drive HGVs.
Anyone who is able to gain experience in the less powerful categories A and A1 will find it much easier to pass the test for category A2, which permits the driving of light motorbikes with the power of up to 35 kW. This is known as "grandfathering,"' and was created to help drivers gain experience on smaller vehicles prior to attempting to drive a more powerful one. If you have two years of experience with category A1 motorcycles you can bypass the theory and practice test and instead undergo a skills assessment. The test will be carried out by a recognised training organization. It should be a reputable school with instructors who are qualified to teach you how drive safely and safely. Age restrictions

Achieving an A1 driving license permits you to drive cars with a maximum authorised mass (MAM) of 8,250kg. You can also drive trailers and motor vehicles combinations with a maximum authorized mass (MAM) of up to 750kg. A full category B driving licence was required prior to the 19th of January 2013 in order to be eligible to drive tricycles and mopeds. Drivers who had a full Category B licence before 19 January 2013 are still entitled to their category AM privileges to tricycles and mopeds as long as they do not have a full Category C licence from that date.
